My Journey With Weight Loss – Reflecting On The Past Year

December 23, 2021

I decided to do my long run today because I am pretty sure I will be busy tomorrow (though I will still get in some sort of training tomorrow). My coach and I had agreed if I felt up to it I should try another 18k. I have to say it was easier last week but I think that is because I let the length of the run get into my head whereas last week I thought I was running 16k. Still, I kept at it and managed to finish my 2nd ever 18k run.

Yesterday we received a card from a neighbour saying you have all been through a tough year, here’s hoping 2022 is better. It made me stop and think exactly how tough it has been. My husband was not able to come home so we spent more than 8 months apart. The property where we keep our trailer flooded twice) but we were not able to check out the damage for weeks allowing us to believe all was lost. My brother spent 5 months in the hospital under going 3 surgeries (a 4th one happened before he was admitted to hospital) with the final surgery being the amputation of his lower leg. Ok, looking at this list it was not the best year.

I like what happens when I reflect on those tough things that have happened because it forces me to find the good stuff as well. I lost another 20lbs so that I am at the smallest size I have ever been in my adult life. I began the year with a goal of being able to run 10k and today I actually ran 18k. Our neighbours have once again proven they are the best in the world whether it be because of the gifts and support during the darkest time or the amazing welcome home signs when my brother was released from hospital. My sister found joy in donating 115+ sets of toques and scarves to those in need after this year’s flood. My husband and I are about to spend nearly 4 weeks together, more time together than in the past 21 months combined. Our trailer came out of the flooding unscathed. Most of all my brother is doing amazing with his rehab and is now able to walk around with just 1 crutch.

Yes, my family got hit hard this year but I am going to focus on all the good things that happened. We could reflect back and think what an awful year but I truly believe the positive things far outweigh the bad ones. Really, it is all about perspective.

I will not be doing a new blog for the next week. Between Christmas on Saturday then traveling on Tuesday I won’t have the time to blog. Not to worry though, a training plan is in place for while I am on vacation.

I hope all of you have a safe and happy holiday season.
