My Journey With Weight Loss – Seeing New Scenery
I am still at the convention and when I woke up this morning I didn’t feel like going for a walk. Not to worry, I have plenty of time today to get in at least 1 hour of walking so it will still happen.
I decided that yesterday I would do a 10k run. Ok, that’s not exactly true. I decided to do a 10k depending on when the rain storm hit and that maybe it would be a 5 or 8k run. Regardless a run would be completed.
The hotel where I am staying is on the Vancouver Seawall which includes a 28k walking/jogging path. Obviously I had no intention of doing the full length of the Seawall but I hoped to get in 5k then turn around and head back to the hotel. So off I went early in the morning in the nice, mild temperature. I have to say I was struck by the beauty of what I saw. On one side of the path you see the harbour and marinas with many boats and yachts. As you travel further the boats disappear you can focus on the water and the beautiful mountains. On the other side is Stanley Park, Vancouver’s largest urban park. I haven’t been to the park for decades and there were just so many memories that I was able to see. Of course along the way were the dreaded geese but most of them stayed in the water. It was so quiet and peaceful and on the way back I got to watch a large cruise ship come in and dock.
I ran to Lion’s Gate Bridge and then turned around and headed back to the hotel. I marvelled at how much I had enjoyed seeing new scenery. Yes, running along our promenade is just as beautiful but this was just a different beauty and it made for a pleasant run, well until the last kilometre. I had the hotel in sight when I felt a few drops of rain. I was just thinking that it wasn’t too bad when the skies opened up and it started to pour rain. Well that sure as hell motivated me to pick up the pace and I sprinted as fast as I could to finish that run. Yes, I was puffing pretty hard when I got to the hotel but still felt pretty good.
All in all it was a great 10k run and a nice way to finish off a week of training.
