My Journey With Health And Fitness – Testing Myself
Yesterday was the summer solstice and all of a sudden today we have beautiful weather. Seriously, after several days of cold and rain it was like a switch was flipped. We are now in for several days of awesome summer weather and I can’t wait.
Now it worked out well that the weather is so good because my husband and I have headed up to the trailer for a few days. The problem is when I get here and the weather is nice I tend to just sit around having some adult beverages watching eagles catch thermals. It is just so relaxing sitting on the patio listening to some good music why on earth would I want to work out? On top of that I tend to not eat as well as I should and usually things like chips are involved. However, this time I am determined I am not going down that path.
So what am I going to do? To start with, I only really bought healthy food to consume over the next few days. This includes fresh veggies and awesome proteins like salmon. To stay away from heavy breakfasts (you know things like bacon and pancakes) I have already prepped hard boiled eggs. While I do still intend to have a few cocktails, it will usually be vodka with Club Soda. As well, I have lots of my beloved no-alcohol stout which clocks in at 30 calories per can (and no sugars).
That just leaves exercising. I have already scheduled that in my head and I refuse to let my laid back setting get the best of me. I plan on at least 3 hours of walking every day (ok, a little less today but I did an hour bootcamp workout at the gym this morning before we left). The game plan is up at 5am to put in 1 1/2 hours first thing. The rest of the day might be 3 shorter walks or another long one, we’ll see but I know I need at least 1,000 exercise calories burned each day. Saturday we’re going to a food truck festival which is at a park 1 1/2 hour walk from the trailer so I will walk there and depending on what I choose to eat I might walk back as well. All I know is I refuse to ruin the progress I have made this far.
About a year ago I ran a 1/2 marathon and as I passed a group of cheering volunteers I told them what I lacked in speed I made up for with determination. Right now I have the same determination to stick to my goals as I had to complete that run.
