My Journey With Health And Fitness – A New Gym

I’ve been enjoying feeding my cats over the past week. Sometimes I don’t see all of them but that’s ok, it is usually just for one day then all is good. However, the past few days I have not seen Midnight, the beautiful, black, feral kitty. This is simply not like her so I am hoping to see her tomorrow. I did have to laugh at my trio of feral kitties this morning. Normally they saunter over slowly, one at a time. Not this morning, the three of them came barreling over as soon as they heard me shaking my bag of treats. Though I must say they seem quite appreciative this morning.

So the other day I went and scoped out the new gym which is an easy 15 minute walk from the condo. This is a new gym in the area so is just starting up. I got to have a good look around and confirmed they had what I was looking for though I admit the membership is higher than what I expected, it is still doable.

I need the gym because the only weights I have successfully found down here are 3lbs and 10lbs. I am so way beyond those weights. Yesterday we were doing dead lifts (I do my fitness classes online down here) and the instructor demanded everyone needed to use at least 2 20lb weights. Nope, no can do. Today it was doing snatches which normally I would use at least 20lbs but again, can’t do it.

Yesterday I went to the gym because I need to focus on doing some exercises with heavier weights. I had done some looking and found a variety of videos for workouts just using dumbbells produced by the same company. Each video also came with a list of the exercises including warmup and cooldown. I decided the best thing to do would be to print off what is needed to be done then watch the video and take notes. I discovered that I knew most of the exercises though sometimes they referred to them by different names. I got through my first workout and was quite happy with it. I also got the chance to use weights heavier than just 10lbs. The game plan going forward is to hit that gym for a 30 minute workout Monday/Wednesday/Friday. It also gives me a chance to get in a little extra walking there and back.

Oh, and at the end of my workout yesterday I thought dammit, picked up a set of 22lb weights and did another round of deadlifts. Tomorrow my makeup exercise will be using those same weights to do a set of snatches. Yes, I am a bit of a keener.
