My Journey With Health And Fitness – A Really Good Week
This past week I have been eating a lot of chicken, and I do mean a lot of chicken. I had bought some bone in chicken breasts and decided to find a simple recipe to cook them up in the crockpot on a day when I had a fairly long Zoom meeting. Of course there was tons left over because it is just me right now. I decided the best course of action would be to make up some chicken vegetable soup yesterday. I had left over chicken broth from the original recipe as well as I had saved the juice from cooking the breasts (I have a fat separator so was able to remove the fat) which I knew would be super flavourful. Know I admit I’m not usually a big fan of broth soups but I had it for dinner last night and it was fabulous. I ended up with 3 servings which I froze which means I have easy, quick dinners if I need them.
After my somewhat morbid post on Tuesday I decided to look at the fact that I have a great opportunity to get myself together, develop a routine and be entrenched in that routine by time my husband gets here. And so Wednesday I started being focused and pushing myself forward. Wednesday was walking, bootcamp and my 1st 30 minutes of weight training. I pushed it until I had put in 3.8 hours of exercise. Then Thursday I backed off a bit but still got in 3.5 hours of exercise. Yesterday was a push as much as possible and got in a full 4 hours of exercise including walking, bootcamp (circuit Friday) and weights. I can’t tell you how proud I was at the end of the day yesterday because I got it all done.
Today of course starts my weekend of pulling back a bit. The original game plan was a 1 hour walk, 1 hour recorded online class and then a 2nd 1 hour walk. I was out at 5:30am to do the first walk and I realized I seriously have to put on some long sleeves if the temperature is as cool as it has been the past couple of days. However, when I went to do my recorded class it had expired on Zoom. I tried another class that I thought would work for me and it too had expired (I’m going to contact the owner of the fitness centre about this). I decided ok, that means more walking despite the fact that the recorded class was supposed to break up the walking. Out I went for another hour followed by a bit of a break and then another 30 minutes. Then after shopping I did yet another 30 minutes getting total walking up to 3 hours for the day. I haven’t done that in a long time.
Going forward my plan is to do 3 super days each week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These are the days when I will be doing weight training at the gym. Those days will involve 2.5 hours walking, 30 minutes weights and 1 hour of fitness class. Even weekends will be at least 3 hours whether it be all walking (though I hope not) or being able to throw in a 1 hour recorded fitness class. Regardless, I am determined not to let this routine go while I am here.
My head is clear, my body feels like it is getting back on track and I am proud of myself that despite being at our laid back condo I am still pushing myself so yeah, it was a really good week.
