My Journey With Health And Fitness – Preparing To Go Home

October 20, 2026

As usual when I am at the condo I am not good at remembering to post. While I always have the best intentions it is easy to get distracted down here. I’ll tell you right now that I won’t be posting on Thursday because that is when we will be heading home.

And that brings me to today’s post, getting ready to head home. We won’t be leaving until late morning on Thursday (there is a traditional stop for lunch in Puerto Morelos before going to the airport) so at this point we have lots of time to get everything done. Having said that, we learned a long time ago that during the last week while we are here if we just do a little bit every day over several days it doesn’t feel we have lost any time. By that I mean we still have time each day to enjoy being here.

As an example, today was wash the comforter off the main bed. This process actually takes a while due to the drying time. We now know the best way to do it is to put it in the dryer for about an hour then hang it to air dry for a couple hours then return it to the dryer to finish off. While that is happening I’m washing things like the pool towels. My husband wanted to deflate the floaties but I am hoping that we can do 1 more dip in the pool this afternoon.

Tomorrow we will do a deep clean of the condo and wash the remaining bedding. Really the cleaning only takes about an hour or so as it is much easier to keep this place clean than the house because there are no pets here. Once that is done we’ll clean out the fridge, stock it with beverages for the next trip and then out for dinner with our friends to a nearby restaurant that is one of our favourties.

You might wonder what we then do on our last morning here. Well, we deliver any leftover food to our neighbours and then we sit around bored to death waiting to leave. There is no real packing other than our electronics and we have a check list of things to ensure we take home and what we need to turn off when we leave the condo. A funny thing is that each thing on the list is there because something happened to make us add it to the list. For example, right after we left a couple years ago the relay went on one of our a/c splits causing it to run 24/7 for 2 weeks until a neighbour discovered it on. We now have turn off a/c breakers on the list. The humorous one is bring Ex-pat remote. Ex-pat is our tv system and while Ex-pat was on the list to pack my husband one time forgot to include the remote which was problematice since we also use the system at home.

But, we know it is all winding down and we are heading home. Did we do everything we wanted to on this trip? Of course not, we never do. Have we had a good time? We always do.

So, until the end of December when we get to come back and do it all again.
