My Journey With Health And Fitness – A Fun Day

July 19, 2026

As I have not been going to classes this week because of my back (which is much better) I have been doing my 2 hour walk down along the beach for the past 6 days. I have so missed being able to do this and realized how peaceful it is doing that walk. I also got to reconnect with my 5am walking people and dogs. It is such a great way to start the day that I am rethinking the best way to get that walk in a little more during the week when I go back to walking to the gym and back.

Yesterday was a crappy day. I had done a 3 hour walk first thing (yes, the endurance walk). Then it was the Friday morning coffee group followed by another 1/2 hour walk. The plan was after I got some stuff done I could get in another hour long walk and call the day done. However, I ended up helping my husband dealing with his 2024 IRS tax refund (note, we have been working on this since May 2025). The bottom line is we spent more than 5 hours on the phone to only be told to call back next Tuesday and maybe they will have a resolution for us. By time we were done we were heading out for the evening so obviously the last walk never happened.

The only reason I wasn’t completely wiped out by yesterday’s disturbing experience was that I knew what was going to happen today. When we returned from Mexico my sister mentioned a local event we should attend today. I looked at her a bit horrified and told her we couldn’t do that and she was crestfallen but asked why. Well, it was because I had planned on surprising her with tickets to see Come From Away, a musical we both love. I had bought us tickets to see it 4 years ago but she had a fall and was spending months in hospital recovering. She was so disappointed missing it last time (though our brother was thrilled he got her ticket) that there was no way she was missing this performance.

And so this morning we headed into Vancouver. We got there in plenty of time to go to out for a lovely lunch. We even had some time to do some window shopping which was a lot of fun. And the show, well it was simply fabulous. It was just such a fun day with my sister and I had made sure to spend the extra to buy us seats close to the stage so that she would be able to see some of the action on stage. Of course the music was awesome and we left that theatre thinking what a fun day. I am so happy that we got to spend the time together enjoying a fabulous production.

I admit things went a little south coming home. Traveling along the freeway I all of a sudden thought my steering wheel was getting really tight and something wasn’t right so I slowed down. I took the next exit (which was reasonably near home) and struggled to steer to get to a parking lot realizing I had lost most of my power to my dashboard and signal lights. From there called my husband, mechanic and booked a tow (which said it would be 1.5 hours to show up but fortunately it was more like 20 minutes). Got my vehicle to the mechanic and was a bit deflated that such a good day was ending badly. But no, the next door neighbours asked us over for some wine and we got to have a lovely time on their deck all of us telling stories.

Despite the vehicle issues, this was an incredibly fun day and I am glad months ago I decided to book this adventure. I do recommend if you haven’t seen Come From Away, the Broadway version is available on Apple TV and is well worth watching. Spoiler alert, you will cry, well at least I always do.
