My Journey With Health And Fitness – An Annual Reminder

Yesterday I had a couple of medical appointments in the morning one of which was the xray on my knee. After I was done my husband and I headed up to our trailer where we had planned on spending the night then winterizing it this morning before heading home. However, we got there and really we had no power. It appeared the trailer was running off of just the battery and not the power from the pole. We tried what we thought we could do then eventually called a repair place for help. A neighbour also reached out to someone she knew but we haven’t heard back from either yet. Needless to say we headed home because there was no way I was staying there without heat or light. My husband will go back up with a friend on Sunday if we don’t hear from one of the repair men.

My other medical appointment was for my annual mammogram. I take this screening as being very important particulary because my Mom died of breast cancer. Here in BC that means I am entitled to have this done every year free of cost. I appreciate this service being available to me as I know how important early detection can be. I actually know someone younger than me who is going for treatment and recently had to have surgery. Here’s hoping she goes into remission soon.

I get why some women feel very uncomfortable with having to do this screening but to me it is just mandatory. Sure, it’s uncomfortable standing there naked from the waist up getting each boob squished a couple times but it is just discomfort. Every tech that has done my mammograms have been awesome to deal with. And seriously, it takes less than 10 minutes then you are free to go about the rest of your day.

I encourage all women who qualify for this screening to get it done. Most will only need to do it every other year but remember, it can save lives. And, encourage all the women you know to do the same.
